How KRA works it out: it takes the CRSP, takes off a set percentage for the car's age, then removes its 25% dealer margin and the taxes already inside a retail price. What is left is the customs value. Import duty, excise duty, VAT and the two fees are charged on that. What you paid for the car does not change the taxes. Prime movers pay no excise, and motorcycles pay a fixed excise of KSh 12,952.83.
